چکیده

We show that thermally activated interstitial and vacancy defects can lead to first-order melting of a vortex lattice. We obtain good agreement with experimentally measured melting curve, latent heat, and magnetization jumps for YBa2Cu3O72d and Bi2Sr2CaCu2O8. The shear modulus of the vortex liquid is frequency dependent and crosses over from zero at low frequencies to a finite value at high frequencies. We also find a small surface tension between the vortex line liquid and the vortex lattice.

“universal” Resistance Jump of Vortices at the Melting Transition

The subject of vortex dynamics in high Tc superconductors is of topical interest [1,2]. In recent years, new aspects of the phase diagram of the vortex lattice have been elucidated through experiment. Perhaps one of the salient recent experimental findings is the first order melting transition of the vortex lattice, first observed in transport measurements [3] and later confirmed in a number of...

Temperature variations of the disorder-induced vortex-lattice-melting landscape.

Differential magneto-optical imaging of the vortex-lattice-melting process in Bi(2)Sr(2)CaCu(2)O(8) crystals reveals unexpected effects of quenched disorder on the broadening of the first-order phase transition. The melting patterns show that the disorder-induced melting landscape T(m)(H,r) is not fixed, but rather changes dramatically with varying field and temperature along the melting line. ...

We carry out an extensive Monte Carlo study of phase transitions in 2D superconducting networks, in an applied magnetic field, for square and honeycomb geometries. We consider both systems with a dilute vortex density 1/q, and dense systems near " full frustration " with vortex density 1/2 − 1/q. The dilute case gives the continuum limit as q → ∞, and serves as a model for a uniform superconduc...

Lattice Boltzmann Simulation of Deformation and Breakup of a Droplet under Gravity Force Using Interparticle Potential Model

Abstract In this paper interparticle potential model of the lattice Boltzmann method (LBM) is used to simulate deformation and breakup of a falling droplet under gravity force. First this model is applied to ensure that the surface tension effect is properly implemented in this model. Two tests have been considered. First, it has been checked an initial square drop in a 2D domain can freely def...

Anomalous Nernst Effect in the Vortex-Liquid Phase of High-Temperature Superconductors by Layer Decoupling

– Linear diamagnetism is predicted in the vortex-liquid phase of layered superconductors at temperatures just below the mean-field phase transition on the basis of a hightemperature analysis of the corresponding frustrated XY model. The diamagnetic susceptibility, and the Nernst signal by implication, is found to vanish with temperature as (Tc0 − T ) 3 in the vicinity of the meanfield transitio...
